The phrase ‘death metal from the pits’ takes new meaning upon one listen to ABJVRATION’s abrasive debut EP The Unquenchable Pyre. Enriched by organic production values and enhanced by vast and rich tonalities, The Unquenchable Pyre is a layered work of massive power. Its five carefully crafted cuts envelop the listener in a weird voyage of distress and pessimism and as it advances ABJVRATION finds new ways to entrance the listener via excruciatingly heavy doom passages, distorted and otherworldly voices, spare samples and a death metal narrative that is evolving and obscure.
ABJVRATION is a French band comprised by ex-members of Huata and Funeralium. This is their first recording.

This album takes me to the darkest places. The whole vibe and overall feel of that album is that of absolute dread, but also beauty. The overall mix of death metal, black metal and some jazz is perfect and the album is unique and fresh. Waiting in anticipation of album 2! chiragrajagopal

This is a huge progression from Wound Empire in terms of density, emotion, and atmosphere. Abstracter truly found a sound which differentiates them from all the other bands in the genre. The repeating guitar riffs seem boring at first, but once you get into the underlying concept of this record it all adds up. Amazing how much effort these guys put into the design (!) of the album. I can only recommend to take proper time to learn appreciating this masterpiece. Mohemian
A corrosive mix of death, doom, psychedelia, and black metal, the Portland quartet’s debut full-length is a bona fide underground monolith that shapeshifts with each listen, all while maintaining its essential heaviness. Bandcamp Album of the Day Feb 1, 2019
