Cronos Compulsion is a death metal band based out of Denver, CO and Chicago, IL. Formed in 2021, the band is composed of Wil Wilson (Thanotheristes, formerly Phthisis) on vocals/guitar, Jon Linskey (Ashen Gaze, Sectra, formerly Phthisis) on drums and noise, and Addison Herron-Wheeler on bass. Taking their name from an archaeological term describing violent behavior towards a corpse, Cronos Compulsion plays a sludgy, grimey style of death doom with lyrics that focus on death rituals, dreams, and ancient violence. The band’s influences include classic death and black metal, doom, noise, and experimental metal.

Cursed and Decaying, the first EP from the band, contains three songs spanning 15 minutes of modern death doom with elements of OSDM, harsh noise, black metal, and sludge. Cursed and Decaying was recorded in the band’s home studio in Denver with drummer Jon Linskey bringing his mixing and mastering duties to the table. The band is currently playing shows in the Denver area and working on new material.

An outstanding Extreme doom death album, in the best tradition. The funerary atmosphere reminds of Evoken ('Centuries of ooze" bears striking similarities, for my delight). It is overall sharp, dark, hypnotic and unrelenting. One of those rare convincing new bands that hold proud the legacy of the biggest names. Bertrand Marchal
